Mapping the Events Ecosystem
Company: Credit Suisse
My position: Senior Interaction Designer
My role: Project lead
Duration: 6 months
Overview
The COVID-19 pandemic has been disruptive to many industries across the world, and the events industry is one of the most affected. Among the most significant effects of the pandemic on the events industry was the cancellation or postponement of events. This not only affected the organisers and performers but also the vendors, suppliers, and other affiliates of the industry, causing significant losses in revenue. There was a race to build a Virtual Events platforms to continue running events as seamlessly as possible. We were approached to support a medium to long term vision of the Virtual events platform. We identified this as an opportunity to look at what events might look like and also how we might transition current systems and processes into a new platform. So we proposed first to Map the current Ecosystem to support strategic discussions around a future Virtual Events Platform that might not only support Virtual events, but physical and Hybrid events in the future.
Interviews & mapping
Activity
To gather insight into the current processes and workflows of events across the organisation, globally we conducted interviews with key actors and stakeholders. From these interviews we produced a series of maps, a report highlighting pains and potential opportunities. Once we presented this work we ran a series of strategic workshops to transition from the ecosystem findings to a strategic roadmap identifying short, medium and long term activities to arrive at the first version of the new events platform.

Mapping
Value
The combination of research, visualising their ecosystem through maps and storyboards then reflecting and discussing through workshops gave us and the events team a clear overview of where the opportunities were to not only build a new platform but also how to evolve events for Credit Suisse clients and event organisers.
